ABSTRACT
The intention of this chapter is twofold. First, it sets out to explain the characteristics of juvenile offenders who commit murder. Second, the chapter summarizes the current state of the research regarding prevention efforts aimed at intervening in the lives of juveniles involved in committing violence and homicide. In doing this, this chapter examines the covariates of juvenile homicide offending and discusses pathways to prevention. Juveniles who commit murder tend to have several shared characteristics (e.g., history of child abuse, co-offending, reside in economically disadvantaged areas). Prevention strategies should focus on at-risk juveniles, particularly those who are most at risk.
