ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author provides some pictures of what he remember of Moscow in former times, fifty, forty-five and forty-two years ago, in comparison with today. Public opinion in Western Europe is interested to know just how successful the Russians are going to be in capturing the markets of the world and especially the undeveloped areas of Asia and Africa. In the Labour Party there is a body of opinion that takes it almost as a foregone conclusion that because in Russia the economy is planned and State-owned, therefore the Russians will automatically be in a position industrially to forge ahead of the West. The enormous progress that Russia has made in the reconstruction of the country, the rebuilding of cities and towns, the building of factories, public works, canals and railways causes one to wonder how the technical skill has been created for this purpose.
