ABSTRACT
Chuvash (čị̈vaš čịlχi ‹чăваш чĕлхи›, čị̈vašla ‹чăвашла›) is a Turkic language, mostly spoken in the Middle Volga region of the Chuvash Republic within the Russian Federation. The name of this ethnic group is čị̈vaš, a term that first appeared in written records in 1508. Exonyms copied from Russian čuvaš(skij) include English Chuvash, German Tschuwasche, and Turkish Çuvaş.
