ABSTRACT

This chapter intends to discuss how Cambodians, who were unprepared, became aware of the serious threat posed by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Moreover, examining the preventive action taken by the government of Cambodia thus far at the national level and the reactions and responses of the people towards such action is necessary. To elucidate the actual state of affairs in Cambodia, interviews were conducted to determine attitudes towards the threat brought by COVID-19. Interviews were conducted in urban and out of cities of the country in terms of geographical, social and environmental conditions. Drawing comparisons may help elucidate the differences between the areas in terms of the awareness of the public about the present situation and in obtaining information relative to COVID-19 according to the places in which they live. The responses of Cambodians to the measures of the government differ widely according to political and social backgrounds.
