ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author reflects on her experiences as a teacher educator, student-teacher mentor, and high school English language arts classroom teacher to consider how and why her views of caring have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter explores three key concepts: how educators redefined what caring looks like, how they balanced caring both personally and professionally, and how they modeled caring for their students. The chapter then considers how teacher educators can demonstrate the importance of caring for the self, while fostering a caring learning and teaching environment that supports their students, and how these actions allow educators to reimagine the educational landscape at all levels.
