ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author argues that it is critical to consider how to equip new teachers with the ability to identify and analyze the structural, cultural, and political discourses present in schools and the public at large. After providing a framework for engaging in this work with teacher candidates, the author addresses how teacher educators can play an empowering role in mitigating the pressures that threaten the emotional resilience and professional longevity of teachers, thereby enacting care via critical policy awareness.
