ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the motivations one might have for locating universals and/or tropes in spacetime, namely: naturalism; properties being constituents of concreta; spatiotemporal location playing a role in trope individuation; and the self-instantiation of properties. It then discusses which regions of spacetime universals would be located at were they to be located. Would universals be multiply located? What, precisely, do we mean by ‘multiple location’? Are there sound arguments against the multiple location of universals? What is the alternative to universals being multiply located? Finally, the chapter ends by discussing which regions of spacetime tropes would be located at.
