ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the biographic profiles of West Indian cricketers like myself so as to highlight their invaluable contributions to the sport as well as to discuss the factors which influence their emergence and success in this field of sports. East Indian cricketers have permeated other areas, especially East Trinidad including Tacarigua and Arima which are historically known to be heavily influenced by Spanish culture and traditions. Like the central and southern areas, East Trinidad also produced prominent West Indian cricketers of East Indian descent such as Sunil Narine, Rayad Emrith and Kristen Kalicharan. In the early 1960s ten houses were built in the village and were all owned by East Indians. In presenting the collective narratives of East Indian sporting achievements in Trinidad and Tobago, this chapter focused on the gravitation to and passion for the game of cricket by a vast majority of the Indo-Trinbagonians.
