ABSTRACT

This epilogue shows that the concepts developed in the book, namely work, collective ventures and authority, can be used to address the ecological transition. Since the latter demands that citizens restrict their material consumption and that firms restructure production, public powers need to make citizens and firms take decisions they would rather not take … but have reason to take. This is precisely the function of authority as understood in the book: it should enable subjects to do what is in their long-term interest.
