ABSTRACT

A call for a new approach to art in a global age was made when Okwei Enwezor, appointed the curator of the 56th International Art Exhibition, announced the exhibition theme for the 2015 Venice Biennale: “All the World’s Future.” Enwezor’s intent was to tell a worldwide story of art with commitments to cosmopolitanism and expanded historical narratives. This essay discusses the impact of several international exhibitions with the prominent example set by Enwezor’s exhibition for the 2015 Venice Biennale. Each exhibition made an effort to present art against a backdrop of world history and cultural exchange.
