ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter seeks to close this collection by both reflecting on what has been covered in the chapters, as well as considering consider current and future developments in this area. It first summarises the major arguments and conclusions presented by the contributors and will endeavour to identify cross-cutting themes and links that emerge from the material presented. It will proceed to consider the future in relation to autism and criminal justice—specifically in relation to suspects, defendants and offenders—by considering ongoing developments at the time of writing; by suggesting some current gaps in knowledge and understanding, which should be addressed; and by highlighting some of the key recommendations for change which should be implemented by policy makers and practitioners, based on the expert contributions contained in this collection.
