ABSTRACT

Sport and work can both be characterized as areas focused on performance and task-oriented behavior. Faced with a stressful situation, in an attempt to ensure physical, social, and psychological health and well-being, resilience can positively influence the behavior of individuals. Based on psychological models of resilience, this chapter will discuss the relationship between resilience and recovery in high-performance sports athletes and coaches. The central point is the relationship between resilience, protective factors to overtraining, burnout, and injuries in high-performance athletes and coaches. Also, social support and activities that promote well-being are associated with resilience, act as protective elements, and optimize recovery. In addition to contributing to recovery, these two aforementioned elements are also components that contribute significantly to the development of resilience levels in athletes and coaches.
