ABSTRACT

The expression of one’s creative potential is associated with cognitive, affective, physical, and social transformations. The aim of the chapter is to explore the extent to which the benefits emerging from the engagement in creative activities can also serve well-being and recovery. Building on embodied and embedded conceptions of creativity, this chapter first presents evidence and mechanisms connecting creativity and well-being. Namely, it questions how various environments could open spaces to daily creative expressions and extra-curricular activities to sustain individuals’ well-being. In this vein, the chapter then uncovers the literature linking creativity and recovery to offer insights into how creative activities can contribute to rejuvenate individuals’ states. The chapter concludes with applied recommendations and key research questions establishing foundations for a promising field of inquiry.
