ABSTRACT

To fully make use of metalanguages in educational setups, the use of a suitable platform is essential. We introduce here the platform MNH-TT (Minna no Hon’yaku for Translator Training: Translator Training of/by/for Everyone), which is a platform for translator education that incorporates metalanguages. The system was originally jointly developed by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, the University of Tokyo, the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Leeds, and the National Institute of Informatics. The original system was project-based, and provided scaffolding for trainee translators, with pre-defined metalanguages for several aspects in the translation process, together with visualisation of action logs to promote reflective learning. We introduced the classroom layer and extended the mechanisms to incorporate additional types of metalanguages in the updated version of MNH-TT. How MNH-TT is used, how metalanguages are incorporated, and how reflective learning can be promoted with visualisations are each introduced.
