ABSTRACT

The translation industry is in need of highly customisable quality assurance (QA) tools that automatically identify and correct translation issues. Although many QA tools have already been made available, no single tool can satisfy all the specific requirements of various translation projects. Fundamentally, detailed knowledge of QA items that need to be checked has not necessarily been accumulated, in particular for languages other than English. To address these issues, I have developed an automated QA tool, named Iro de Check, which was specifically designed with patent translations in mind but also handles other domain translations and is already in use in commercial translation. The core feature of this tool is that users can flexibly customise QA items based on domain conventions and client requests. This chapter not only introduces its interface and functions, but also provides explanations of its coverage in the QA process and details of the implementation of check functions, which offer insights into the development and deployment of QA tools in general.
