ABSTRACT

In recent years, Pakistan’s relations with Russia have been entering into a new phase of strong collaboration. Pakistan’s foreign policy is facing multiple challenges and is in a constant struggle to preserve a balance in maintaining its relationship with other countries, to utilize its strengths, and to help its faltering economy. For Russia, it is important to minimize the spillover of terrorism which could impact Russian economic projects in the region. Although Pakistan–Russia relations in the existing geostrategic milieu are still fragile, initiatives to improve them have been taken and the ice has started thawing. The chapter identifies many opportunities such as increasing joint trade, commencing the North-South Gas Pipeline, and cooperation on regional security matters. The expansion of their ties will help in bringing stability and prosperity to the region.
