ABSTRACT

The United States, Israel, and several European allies have explicitly stated that they will not accept the possession of nuclear weapons by the Islamic fundamentalist regime ruling Iran. The argument for military action was based on the perception that Iran was on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons. Many Western leaders have been explicit in their insistence that due to the nature of the fundamentalist regime ruling Iran, they will not accept Iran developing nuclear weapons or having the capability of producing nuclear weapons. By mid-2008, officials in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Israel had explicitly stated that the military option is available to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and/or the capability to develop nuclear weapons. Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have explicitly and publicly stated that they will proceed with the enrichment process.
