ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the author's initial and ongoing reflections on the power of the external environment to contribute to the therapeutic process in dramatherapy. Supported by theories of environmental psychology, skin-ego theory, the malleable medium and the transitional object, it aims to shed light upon the power of the places and the objects within which we work and highlights how a co-design process with clients can be therapeutic. Using practice examples, the room, the objects, the design and the arrangement of space become the primary focus and play a leading role. Reflection and analysis is viewed through the lens of psychoanalysis.
