ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to stress the emerging practice of Embodiment and the Neutral Mask in Dramatherapy and will present a group case study of the use of the Neutral mask to investigate the impact on male offenders in prison and offer practical insights into the applications of these theatre-derived techniques. In particular, it aims to draw attention to the use of J. Lecoq's Neutral Mask as a containing space of the inner reality and self-expression of the client, within the context of Dramatherapy practice. It will shed light on the therapeutic potential of working with dreams and images through embodiment work and the use of the mask. This chapter finally aims to demonstrate how this work has been adapted from the performer's training to the dramathepeutic space to fit the needs of psychological healing.
