ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to trace the psychosexual development of a female in reference to those factors which lead to homosexual maladjustment. The patient, hereafter referred to as C, has been under psychoanalytic treatment for more than eighteen months. C has never had any heterosexual experiences, but on various occasions was the passive partner in sexual relations with other women. The object choice was always a woman who engineered C into the homosexual affair, the patient apparently powerless to resist. One prolonged affair continued for more than two years, and the last of her homosexual experiences ended at the age of 26 when she began to keep company with a man. In homosexual people who present themselves for psychiatric treatment one finds that the disturbance in sexuality is a symptom, an expression of disturbance in the infantile psychosexual development. Homosexuality is a poor term when used in a narrow sense to mean object choice.
