ABSTRACT

The next hour was to be my first session with Mr. Dorian Germaine, my next patient. * I knew him by reputation. He was a young man in his middle thirties, who came from a very wealthy family. The death of his parents, some years before, had left him with a large inheritance, which he had used to gratify his every wish. He was, I knew, one of America’s outstanding painters, whose work had been exhibited in many museums and private galleries. I also knew, from the gossip of art circles, that he was reputed to be a homosexual.
