ABSTRACT

Appreciation of the arts in primary education is generally widespread. Creative activities are particularly highly valued in the implementation of cross-curricular and thematic teaching. Modern research into the nature of intelligence has led to speculations about the development of the human brain. Discoveries about cerebral dominance and latéralisation of brain functions have stimulated interest in the hemispherical differences in personalities, and the consequent effects on learning patterns in individuals. Controversial opinions are expressed on broader issues. The chapter presents some ideas for teaching such children, which are based upon the notion that to work through a child’s strengths of the right hemisphere will help to develop his or her weaker left-hemisphere functions. The preparation of the book can lead to a whole range of craft, design and technological processes for the enrichment of the learning environment and for the ultimate satisfaction and increased self-esteem of the child in question.
