ABSTRACT

The classroom is organised into well-defined curricular areas. There are areas resourced for: language work, mathematics, science, technology, a listening area, with tapes, a writing area, computer, small private book area, an area for painting, claywork, and a large public area used for whole group meetings. Planning is an important characteristic of successful classroom organisation and management. Planning for each week’s work is closely linked with record keeping and assessment and facilitated by the use of this weekly diary. The weekly diary that we use is a vital tool for building up a bank of information about individual children and their starting points, initial levels of assessment. There is adequate scope for recording the National Curriculum Attainment targets studies by each pupil and when we feel an attainment target has been achieved.
