ABSTRACT

A primary challenge facing the urban planning profession and schools of planning that affects whether children and youth will consider the profession as a career preference relates to their awareness of the profession. Two questions arise: (1) What factors influence career awareness among children and youth? and (2) How can planning schools influence career awareness through effective collaborations with high schools? Using the Activate Community Empowerment (ACE) outreach program initiated by the University of Cincinnati’s School of Planning as a case study, this chapter examines how planning schools can increase planning awareness among children and youth.
