ABSTRACT

In response to the public outcry after the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, as well as other events surrounding racial injustice in 2020, there has been an even more urgent call to address diversity, equity, and inclusion in the planning field. Academic planning programs are the primary gateway for bringing students from underrepresented backgrounds into the field and play a critical role in recruiting and retaining a diverse pool of future planners. This chapter offers a critical look at practices used by planning programs in the United States to advance equity.
