ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book argues that a healthy, mature conception of love is a foundational and unifying principle that might more intentionally guide the project of humanistic management. It develops a conceptual model for love and organizations. It shares the perspectives of the territory of love and work, based on existing research and what they’re learning about love at work from interviews with executives and teams in organizations representing a variety of sectors and industries. The book develops an understanding of love as agape for the organizational context. It draws on the existing literature and examines the differing yet converging views of agapic love. The book proposes the humanistic organizational development matrix as a managerial tool by which critical human development milestones can be identified, operationalized, and pursued in the organizational context.
