ABSTRACT

Coralie Fiori-Khayat writes in her chapter about how romance carries a socio-emotional value linked to dignity, which is then confronted with express or implicit rules within an organization, bringing the relationship into conflict with the workplace. Why this tension emerges and how it might be overcome are two questions that have so far, to our knowledge, remained unanswered. This chapter tries to address this oversight. It begins, first, by setting out the theoretical background by contextualizing the wider subject of romantic relationships in the workplace, and then by developing the ethical framework in which they take place. From there, it attempts to expand and develop upon this theoretical model before finally moving toward our concluding remarks, where implications, limitations, and further directions are discussed.
