ABSTRACT

A wealth of research indicates the importance of positive learner-teacher interactions. In this chapter, I focus on engaging with students as partners in learning and teaching as a powerful approach to nurturing learner-teacher interactions. The implications for evidencing and enhancing student engagement on a global scale is explored from the stance of forming partnerships with students. In doing so, I present a three-pronged argument: constructing higher education with students as agentic members of the university community; graduating students who advocate for the purpose and value of higher education; and advancing a human-centred and relational educational culture across the global higher education sector.
