ABSTRACT

This chapter contributes to the further development of mediatisation theory by applying the relatively new concept of geomediatisation to close social relationships and providing a theoretical foundation for the analysis of geomediatised relationships with a focus on their dialectical aspects. Geomediatisation describes the increasingly perceived indispensability of geomedia technologies and their influence on almost all areas of life, such as finance and trade, mobility, sport and work, but also family life, love life and relationships. In addition to the increasing dependencies, processes of geomediatisation are said to cause people to adapt their actions and interactions accordingly. In this context, the question of how close social relations are lived and negotiated in this new era of geomediatisation and how they can be grasped in their dialectics is addressed.
