ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some of the ways musicking communities come into being around specific “events” or “situations” involving complex affective relationships between human and non-human actors. It underscores the role actions, histories, and spaces play in shaping how communities coalesce and change, using jazz’s sonorities, practices, places, politics, and more as a practicable model.
