ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the need for flexible employment of managers in a dynamically changing labour market. The use of interim management to temporarily employ highly qualified and experienced top managers may be in various companies strategically more beneficial and financially more profitable than the use of other flexible forms of employment. This chapter demonstrates the results of a qualitative study conducted among interim managers in Poland. Based on these interviews, the impact of technological advances on the activities of the Interim Manager profession is identified. This chapter shows that interim managers are employed by companies to meet often shorter-term, project-specific needs. This form of employment earns both the managers and the companies that use them specific and measurable benefits, but it also comes with risks.
