ABSTRACT

The aim of the chapter is to determine how the digital economy affects labour market segmentation and what factors affect the development of flexible employer-employee relations. The attractiveness of segmentation theory lies in its focus on the role of organisations in shaping labour market inequalities. This chapter shows that labour market segmentation is treated as an effect of the introduction and increasing use of other-than-typical forms of employment and work organisation. This results in various risks that significantly reduce occupational stability, protection of workers’ interests, promotion opportunities, etc. In the chapter, it is demonstrated that creating an inclusive digital economy with good quality jobs can be supported by workplace innovation.
