ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors highlight evidence-based practices and a variety of models that prepare individuals with autism transitioning from high school to inclusive postsecondary educational experiences at institutes of higher education. The authors describe the benefits of participation in higher education for students with autism and discuss barriers to higher education success. The authors provide tools that can be used to assess a good fit and the preparedness of a campus to meet the needs of students with autism, both institutional and directly related to autism characteristics.
