ABSTRACT

Digital inclusion occurs when individuals and communities are able to access and use technology. For individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), digital inclusion in the form of online platform (social media and internet) use can be beneficial in many ways. However, it can also be risky as individuals with ASD may be vulnerable to being perpetrators or victims of cyber victimization. In this chapter, digital inclusion for individuals with ASD will be explored. The use of online platforms by individuals with autism, as well as use benefits and risks specific to this population, will be analyzed. Lastly, instructional strategies and resources for adoption of online platforms for individuals with ASD will be given.
