ABSTRACT

The chapter aims to provide an overview of Digital Dating Abuse (DDA) in adolescent relationships, exploring recent global research before focusing on research studies that focus on levels of acceptability of DDA for adolescents in South Wales, UK. The rise of technology, internet usage, and social media is providing a new space for adolescents to communicate and conduct their relationships online. Technology is argued to be playing a positive part in adolescents’ lives, with mobile phones, social media, and email being reported to support social development in adolescents (Stonard et al., 2014). However, with such increasing use of smartphones and social media sites and apps, the internet has arguably become a place in which young people may experience DDA.
