ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide an overview of the publication. It covers four main parts, namely, the background of the Indian community as part of a multiethnic and multicultural Malaysian society; a brief analysis of selected aspects of education in the Indian community and some of the challenges which beset the system; content summaries of chapters spanning the education system from primary through tertiary apprising the roles of the government, private sector and civil society; and a short final section looking forward to the book’s conclusions and its promise of fresh approaches to resolving continuing and new challenges.
