ABSTRACT

This chapter explores issues pertaining to the tertiary education of Malaysian Indians. Community imperatives for pursuing tertiary study and the policy context affecting the sector are discussed. Pathways and public and private tertiary institutional provisions are examined with a view to options and routes that students may take, including through community-based educational initiatives. Key concerns include access and equity issues, support for learning at the tertiary level and the issue of employability. Potential directions for assisting the community to move forward in tertiary education are also considered.
