ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses the significant role which needs to be played by the government in the progress of the Malaysian Indian community. It will build on an analysis of efforts taken thus far, in the last decade, to help elevate the low-educational attainment and the economic status of Malaysian Indians. This chapter makes specific policy recommendations to be implemented by the government, drawing lessons from policies and practices which have proven to work for other communities in the country and internationally.
