ABSTRACT

The Chinese higher education system was the first in the world to be shocked as universities shifted their teaching and learning online amid campus closures due to COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter discusses this transition by applying a three-step digital transformation framework to study the journey of China’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform, XuetangX. It then presents multiple case studies of how the Rain Classroom learning tool was used during the pandemic. It concludes by analysing the role of hybrid education in fostering a more open, integrative, and resilient higher education system beyond the pandemic.
