ABSTRACT

This chapter critically addresses the diverse workforce in our schools and asks, who now delivers primary Physical Education? Examined through the political approach of neoliberalism and the outsourcing of education and Physical Education services, the chapter is narrowed to discussing the opportunities and challenges that primary schools face in relation to maintaining and raising educational standards, while at the same time engaging, managing and supporting the diverse workforce who teach Physical Education. Written from a social, cultural perspective, the chapter attempts to move beyond macro level political ideology to consider the Physical Education delivery debate in relation to how primary-aged children are experiencing childhood, wider society, school-based education, and specifically Physical Education.
