ABSTRACT

This chapter considers primary Physical Education as a series of progressive transfers and explains that transition would be better understood as a process rather than an event. Whilst there are a number of key studies that look at transfer in relation to Physical Education from primary to secondary school, there are few that cover transitions in Physical Education in early childhood. Thus, drawing on constructivist developmental theories and the chronology of established physical development milestones, the chapter illustrates why getting it right early on should be our focus.
