ABSTRACT

This chapter sets out the challenges and potential for primary Physical Education. The purposes of Physical Education are considered explaining how the ‘why’ of decision-making provides important direction for the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ of experience. Four possibilities are presented, but with caution that all four cannot co-exist without conflating what the aims of purpose of Physical Education to be. The possibilities for primary Physical Education proposed in this chapter challenge the reader to consider their ‘why’ for the subject within a wider educational context.
