ABSTRACT

The concept of the knowledge-based economy (KBE) has been disseminated since the last decade of the 20th century. It has been gaining more and more importance, among both entrepreneurs and scientific staff. Research and development (R&D) activity is one of the essential pillars of the KBE. Therefore, the purpose of the research presented in this chapter is a synthetic evaluation (supported by comments) of R&D in the business enterprise and higher education sectors.
