ABSTRACT

This chapter aims at defining the determinants of creating specific knowledge diffusion centers such as business process offshoring (BPO), shared service centers (SSCs)/global business services (GBS), IT, and R&D outside the country. A Krakow case study is used as an example of a city that has occupied a prominent place in the European and national rankings of attractiveness for many years in terms of business service center location. The analysis shows selected key reasons for why it was possible to transform Krakow from a city of industry and production into a city of knowledge and international cooperation.
