ABSTRACT

While it is commonly said that online teaching is just a different mode of delivery, this saying fails to acknowledge some important points online instructors should be aware of. This chapter explores the potential benefits of online teaching for developing the core skills required for historical thinking, while recognizing some of the principal reasons why students can fail to thrive in an online environment. This chapter then discusses recent research on self-regulated learning, and how these techniques can be added to online courses to improve student performance.
