ABSTRACT

One of the major concerns of most instructors when making a move to online teaching is that they worry that the in-person classroom experience will not translate to distance learning entirely. Rather than trying to replicate the face-to-face experience in a distance learning format, instructors need to use different pedagogical and assessment approaches to teaching history online. Instructors need to increase the use of technology and creativity beyond what they do in a traditional face-to-face classroom. This chapter will explore how instructors can use technology such as timelines, story mapping, Edpuzzles, and online exhibits to engage students innovatively while still meeting student learning outcomes.
