ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how assessment and feedback are core elements of the online history classroom. I begin by defining assessment and explaining how I use feedback to discuss the past and help students continue to develop their reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills. I also provide examples of assignments designed to teach students how to consider different perspectives. Students learn how to analyze primary and secondary sources, use cited evidence to support an argument, and how to write an essay. Each assignment assists students in developing skills to understand history, to think critically, and to communicate their ideas well. Overall, in this chapter, you will learn ways to use assessment and feedback as effective tools for instruction in the online history classroom.
