ABSTRACT

This chapter considers digital, interactive timelines as an alternative to the discussion board as the center of asynchronous online history courses. Interactive timelines have the potential to help students develop historical thinking skills as they collaborate to identify key events, figures, and issues in history survey classes. The instructor’s pedagogical values should guide the process of choosing digital tools to support interactive teaching and learning in history. This chapter provides a detailed discussion of the processes involved and examples of assignments and tools.
