ABSTRACT

History is uniquely suited to online teaching, as the environment affords both historians and history students access to a variety of media across time and space. 1 Despite the distance between class participants, the range of resources allows for a myriad of online projects, allowing classes to delve deeper into specific topics or eras. However, even with nearly a decade’s worth of research highlighting the increased access to and affordability of online instruction and the similarity of student outcomes to in-person classes, many historians are resistant to online instruction. 2 This chapter will focus on why many historians are reluctant to teach online and provide methods to implement to assuage their transition to online instruction.
