ABSTRACT

This chapter details the fundamentals of sports nutrition and dives further into the unique challenges alpine ski racers meet with. A scientific approach matches human biology and sports performance principles together to give the reader the highest level of understanding as to what truly matters most when it comes to refueling and recovering from difficult training in alpine ski racing. Furthermore, key aspects of sports performance nutrition such as supplementation, hydration, body composition, and altitude/climate effects on the metabolism and the body are discussed. Lastly, applicable steps and recommendations towards improving and optimizing one's own performance nutrition are detailed at length.
